The light
The sun sets directly across the lake from the venue, then drops behind the mountain, which makes for an incredible golden hour. Ceremonies usually happen in the afternoon, so plan to be back out at the lake for golden hour portraits.

The venue
About 50th Parallel Estate
A 61-acre winery on the shore of Okanagan Lake in Lake Country, 15 minutes from Kelowna airport. What sets 50th Parallel apart from other Okanagan wineries is the architecture. The modern concrete and glass buildings give every wedding a look of its own, with the lake and vineyard on the other side of the glass. The reception hall is stunning, with a tank room off the side for larger parties, and there's even a wine cave for the more intimate moments. Ceremonies happen on the Infinity Pad above the vineyard, with the lake behind. Jackie and Connor run the venue as a great team, and they'll do their best to accommodate almost any request.

Where I film
The Infinity Pad with the lake behind is the ceremony spot. The vineyard rows are my favourite for couple portraits, and the concrete wall and the stairs at the back are a great modern contrast. Inside, the reception hall's architecture does a lot of the work, and the Tank Hall and wine cave each film differently.
One tip
Build in time to move between spaces. The ceremony, portrait locations and reception are spread across the property, and a rushed timeline costs you the golden hour. Jackie and Connor are easy to work with on timing, so talk it through with them early.
